WOSU TV produced a documentary called New Americans about the immigrant and refugee experience in Columbus – how immigrants and refugees are adding to our culture, supporting our economy and reshaping the American dream. Watch an excerpt of the documentary followed by a discussion with the show’s producer, Cindy Gaillard, to learn how to interact with refugees and find out how we can support our refugee community in Columbus.

In these times of world turmoil, confusion and tension surrounds the issues of immigration and refugees coming into our nation and our communities. What are the facts? What are the real needs of immigrants and refugees? How can we make a difference as Christians? How can we negotiate our own fears of other cultures? Will other cultures understand us or accept help from us? Filmmaker Cindy Gaillard from WOSU TV and Elizabeth Goussetis from Community Refugee and Immigration Services (CRIS) will lead discussions on Wednesday nights throughout May to better understand the refugees and immigrants among us, discuss our own fears, concerns and misperceptions, and outline opportunities to get involved.

Movie: Wednesday, April 26

Continue the discussion, Wednesdays May 3rd-May 31st
