Position Description – 8:30 Service Music Coordinator
Duties/ Requirements – The 8:30 Music Coordinator’s responsibility is to organize, coordinate, and lead worship music for the church’s 8:30 AM service. The 8:30 service is in a traditional service format, yet has blended, folk, and modern music styles.
The primary desired proficiencies for this position are in the areas of keyboard (piano) and singing. The ability to direct and assign parts to musicians is necessary.
Congregational singing selections are drawn primarily from our three hymnals. Other instrumental skills would be considered an asset. Special music selections are shared during the service. A music degree and/or equivalent training in the areas of keyboard and vocal music direction are expected.
The group sharing music at the 8:30 service, ideally, can be a combination of singers and instrumentalists, with 3-8 members present. While this group’s members may change from week to week, it is hoped that a ‘core’ of musicians would be consistently present. One weekly rehearsal session outside of church time, on a weekday evening or Saturday morning, will take place.
The Music Coordinator will work with the Head Pastor and Director of Music to coordinate music with the weekly themes and readings for the service. Attendance at weekly worship planning sessions is desired.
Applicants should possess a strong Christian faith, be adaptable to changing circumstances, and be strong at communicating a cooperative, team approach to worship planning. Salary is to be negotiated based on training and experience.
This position involves participation during the entire calendar year, with 4 (four) Sundays off per year, not including major church observances.
HOW TO APPLY:
Interested and qualified applicants should submit a resume to Music Director, Jon Szabo firstname.lastname@example.org or call and leave a detailed message 614-578-3949, by June 10, 2019.
